Lap times were immediately on the pace in a new Pirelli era for Moto3™with Ivan Ortola (MT Helmets MSI) at the top of the time sheets at the Qatar Airway Grand Prix of Qatar. The #48 set his time in the final seconds of the session with Jose Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) in second just 0.168 behind. BOE Motorsports’ David Muñoz rounded out the top three, ahead of David Alonso (CFMOTO Aspar Team) in fourth. Tatsuki Suzuki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) rounded out the top five in new colours in 2024.

Nicola Carraro (MTA Team) was the first crasher of the season, falling at turn seven – less than 10 minutes into the session, with David Almansa (Rivacold Snipers Team) having a crash at turn 15 just minutes later. David Alonso also had an unfortunate start to his season and ended Free Practice early, crashing at turn nine in the closing moments of the session.
