Chantra charges to the top ahead of Gonzalez

The #35 was at the top of the timesheets after setting a new lap record on Saturday morning ahead of Gonzalez and Canet

Moto2™ was back on track to decide the top 14 ahead of qualifying at the Motul TT Assen. At the top of the timesheets at the end of Practice 2 was Somkiat Chantra (IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia), who climbed to the top spot after setting an impressive 1:35.341 in the final 10 minutes. The #35 jumped from 12th to first and was 0.114s clear of the rest of the field and ahead of Manuel Gonzalez (QJMOTOR Gresini Moto2™), who put in yet another solid result to finish in second. Meanwhile, Fantic Racing’s Aron Canet was able to round out the top three a further 0.028s behind Gonzalez as tension now begins to build ahead of qualifying.

There was disappointing news before the session began with Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team) and Filip Salac (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) being declared unfit after their separate crashes on Friday. However, once Practice 2 began it was an intense session with Sergio Garcia (MT Helmets - MSI) and Fermin Aldeguer (Folladore SpeedUp) trading the top spot a handful of times throughout the session. This set the stage perfectly for the final 10-minute time attack for a spot inside the top 14 with yellow flags briefly putting a hold to fast laps as Xavi Cardelus (Fantic Racing) had a crash at turn 7.

Further back Aldeguer was the top Boscoscuro machine after setting a strong time late in the session to place fourth. The #54 was ahead of Championship leader Garcia and his teammate Ai Ogura, who took sixth place and completed a great morning for the MT Helmets - MSI team. Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS Racing Team) was seventh with a consistent pace throughout the session and ahead of Folladore SpeedUp Alonso Lopez, who rounded out the top eight after setting 15 laps.

Ninth place went the way of Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo), who jumped inside the top 14 ahead of Marcos Ramirez, with the #24 rounding out the top 10 on the sole OnlyFans American Racing Team machine. Jeremy Alcoba (Yamaha VR46 Master Camp Team) was 11th ahead of Darryn Binder (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) who consolidated 12th after a crash late in the session. Meanwhile, the final spots inside the top 14 went the way of Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team) and last year’s Moto2™ winner Jake Dixon (CFMOTO Inde Aspar Team).

The Moto2™ field will be back on track for qualifying at 13:45 local time (UTC +2), so make sure you don’t miss a beat on motogp.com!
