After winning the 60cc UK National Motocross Championship, Leon Haslam went on to win the UK National Scooter Championship in 1997 and a year later became the youngest British rider to compete in a Grand Prix when he rode in the 125cc race at Donington Park. After a difficult first full season in the 125cc World Championship with Italjet in 2000, the youngster followed the footsteps of his father Ron into 500cc Grand Prix, becoming the youngest ever rider to score points in the class at his first attempt in Suzuka. Despite showing early promise on the Honda V2, Leon's results suffered after being switched to the V4 for the second half of the season and he is now looking to re-ignite his career in 250.
