After winning the Spanish Superbike championship in 1994, Gregorio Lavilla debuted in the World Championship in the 250cc class in 1995, before moving to Germany\'s Superbike championship the next year. In 1998 while contesting in World Superbike he made one wildcard appearance in the 500cc German GP for the Honda Movistar Team. For the next 5 years in World Superbike, he raced with the Kawasaki then Suzuki factories, until 2004 when Suzuki did not enter a WSBK team. The Spaniard remained with Suzuki as a test rider, substituting for Yukio Kagayama in the BSB series once, and contesting in four MotoGP rounds for the team. He enjoyed a successful 2005, winning the British Superbike Championship.
