David de Gea made his GP debut in 1995 at Catalunya in the 125cc class, making 2 more wildcard entries the next year and a third in 1997 in the 250 class. De Gea then competed in European championships before returning to the world stage on Jose Luis Cardoso’s Honda TSR 500 V2 in 1999, scoring one race point before finishing the season with Kenny Roberts\' Modenas team. The Spaniard stayed with Modenas for 2000, scoring points in 7 of the 9 GPs he contested, returning to the 250 class in 2001 where he claimed one podium at Assen. In 2003 he made 9 starts on the Harris WCM MotoGP machine with a highest placement of 19th, with a single appearance with WMC in 2004 along with five 250 appearances.
