Progress has been made and there’s positivity aplenty for Jorge Martin (Aprilia Racing), after the reigning MotoGP™ World Champion was flown back from Doha in Qatar to Madrid in Spain, to continue his recovery. The Spaniard crashed on his return from a pre-season injury last time out at Lusail but fell again, leaving him with a hemopneumothorax and multiple rib fractures.
A further statement was released on Sunday of what would have been the #1’s home Grand Prix at Jerez by Aprilia, with comments from MotoGP Medical Director Angel Charte: “Yesterday, we performed a CT scan on Jorge Martin at the Ruber Quirón Hospital and the news is certainly good and very encouraging. Martin has perfect lungs. The pleura, the membrane that surrounds the lung, is completely closed.
“Moreover, of the theoretically 11 fractures he had, three remain: the seventh, the eighth and the eleventh, which already show the ongoing progression of the callus. Therefore, in my opinion, the evolution has been very positive. Now we will wait as long as necessary and continue to monitor the evolution of these fractures from Madrid.”
Earlier in the weekend, Aprilia Racing CEO Massimo Rivola was able to provide an update on their star signing’s recovery, with it needing to take as long as necessary. No plan has been discussed about his return with his full recovery a priority but following the update from Angel Charte, Aprilia and the rest of the MotoGP paddock look forward to welcoming him back when able to do so.
