"I took a risk"

The star of the show in Argentina was Marc Marquez, with the Spanish rider securing another clean sweep – claiming the maximum 37 points. It was a special day for the #93, who bagged his 90th Grand Prix victory and equalled Spanish MotoGP Legend Angel Nieto: "First of all, big words: ‘equal Angel Nieto’. He was the one who opened the doors to the Spanish motorcycle world. Angel showed us what motorcycles were and what the World Championship was, so it’s an honour to equal him."

Going into further detail about the intense battle with his brother, Marc said: "I’m so impressed with my brother Alex. At one part of the race, I was thinking of finishing in second. He was riding so smooth, always keeping the corner speed up; I saw his tyre wasn’t smoking, and I thought, ‘he is on another level’. In the end, I survived, and I took a risk, as you saw! A lot of risks, maybe too many!"

"I will be back"

It was another tough weekend for two-time MotoGP World Champion Francesco Bagnaia, who has yet to win a Sprint or Grand Prix so far this season: "We closed the gap during the weekend, but it wasn’t enough. Today, in the race, my pace was pretty similar to the two first guys, but I wasn’t able to follow them. I lost a bit of time with Franky and Johann. But I wasn’t fast enough to finish on the podium."

However, despite this, Bagnaia remains calm: "I know it’s going to be long and how important it is to remain calm in that case. Last year, at this point of the season, I had fewer points. I know how important it is to finish races. I don’t want to take too many risks in these situations. But I’m working hard, and I will continue like this to solve the problems. I won’t be in this position all season; I will be back."

"I was really on the limit"

Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) had another remarkable weekend, once again going head-to-head with his brother and taking a step closer to his first MotoGP win: "Second again! I think today, we were closer than ever to my first MotoGP victory! I tried my best and tried to push. Being in front of Marc, I was using more rear tyre at Turn 6, Turn 11 and Turns 7 and 8, but I tried to stay focused until the end. When he passed me at Turn 5 but went wide, I said, ‘OK, now I’ll try to push,’ and I did 1’38.3, but he did a 1’38.2, so I said, ‘OK, I’m finishing like this’. I couldn’t go at that rhythm, I was really on the limit and not feeling really safe, so I decided to push and finish in P2."

"It makes me very emotional"

It was a Sunday that Franco Morbidelli (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) would not forget for a long time, with the Italian returning to a Grand Prix podium for the first time in 1414 days. Morbidelli discussed the journey to this point and the emotions he experienced: "For four years, we hung on tight! It’s an amazing feeling; the team deserve this; we started the season well since the beginning of the test. We started working on the weak points and improved step by step. We have to get better in some areas, such as the starting position. P3 is amazing, and we’ll take it big time. I wasn’t thinking about it before, but now that I’m thinking about it, it makes me very emotional to get the first podium with the team and for the team in South America."

"Bad mistake from my side"

Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) was in his stride in Argentina, aiming to find similar success as he found in 2023. However, at the opening corner on Sunday, the Italian made a crucial mistake in the braking zone, which ended his Grand Prix: "I braked too late. I avoided Franky, but unfortunately, I hit the rear wheel of Fabio. It was a bad mistake from my side. I want to apologise to Fabio; I already have to his team. It was my mistake, and hopefully, next time will be better."

"I want the video of this overtake"

Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) brought late drama on Sunday, continuing his fight with Zarco for a crucial top-five finish before inventing a spectacular move at Turn 11 on the final lap: “I was struggling with the front a little because it had so much temperature; it was really difficult to stop the bike, so I had to invent somehow the overtake. I said, 'OK, now or never, Turn 11'. I was expecting he was preparing his line. I went in, and the cool thing is, once I was on the inside, I said in my head, 'I want the video of this overtake!' It was a good one!”

"It is a positive to say that I was fighting with Pecco"

Johann Zarco (LCR Honda CASTROL) had a remarkable weekend, storming to third place on the grid, with the Frenchman remaining firmly in the battle at the front: "Almost a dream weekend from the first lap of Friday until the race on Sunday. It is so nice to get the possibility to be able to fight with the top guys. It has been a positive for us. I did everything to get a podium, and the strategy on Sunday was better than Saturday because I got a better start on the long race on Sunday."

But as the Grand Prix unfolded, Zarco would engage in a battle with Bagnaia, eventually crossing the line in P6: "I was in a better position to be in third place and try to go with Alex and Marc, but I was fighting with Pecco, and he was defending very well. I could not use my extra speed that I had at the start because of the fight with Pecco, it is a positive to say that I was fighting with Pecco, but then the race was quite tough."

"I always want more"

Honda continued to make further steps in Argentina, with Joan Mir (Honda HRC Castrol) finishing a hard-fought race in P9. However, the 2020 MotoGP World Champion is still looking for further improvements: "For sure, I am seeing some steps, but throughout the race, I had to fight with the KTMs that had a faster engine than ours. I had to defend my position, I had to attack a lot on the brakes, and I was overheating the front. It was a big challenge to finish the race. But I cannot say that I’m happy because our bike here had more potential, but I could not defend from the others. Every time on the straight, the rider behind overtook me. We need to understand what we can do to solve that situation. This year, I can see how I’m able to fight, but as a rider, I always want more."
