Welcome to the 100 MotoGP™ victories club, Ducati Corse! Enea Bastianini’s (Ducati Lenovo Team) triumph in Sunday’s Emilia-Romagna GP has seen the Bologna brand reach a special milestone, as the Italians join Honda (157) and Yamaha (125) in reaching triple win figures in the modern era of Grand Prix racing.
In addition, following their astonishing recent run of success, Ducati’s 100 victories milestone also sees them become the fourth manufacturer to clinch 100 premier class wins since 1949. Honda (313), Yamaha (245) and MV Agusta (139) are the other factories to have achieved the feat, as Ducati etch their name into a very prestigious Grand Prix racing club.
THE JOURNEY – 2003 TO TODAY
Ducati joined MotoGP™ in 2003 with Loris Capirossi and Troy Bayliss piloting their first maiden Grand Prix Desmosedici prototype – and it didn’t take long for that first win to come. Capirossi set the ball rolling with victory at the 2003 Catalan GP, but the next collection of wins didn’t come until 2005 when the Italian won in Japan and Malaysia.
Bayliss’ unforgettable Valencia 2006 win was part of four wins earned by Ducati in that year, with the other three claimed by Capirossi on his way to finishing third in the overall standings.
A future two-time World Champion then set the world alight in 2007. Casey Stoner won 10 races to hand himself and Ducati their first MotoGP™ title, with the Australian acting as the only Ducati rider to win a race from 2008 to 2016.
The success-starved period ended when Andrea Iannone won the 2016 Austrian GP, and teammate Andrea Dovizioso backed that up with a win later in the year at Sepang. Then, from 2017 onwards, wins became a much more regular occurrence for Ducati again.
Alongside Dovizioso for the 2017 and 2018 seasons, five-time title winner Jorge Lorenzo added three wins to his and Ducati’s CV. The #99’s replacement, Danilo Petrucci, won twice on the factory Ducati between 2019 and 2020, before Jack Miller, Jorge Martin and Francesco Bagnaia won for the first time donning Ducati colours in 2021.
Since then, Enea Bastianini, Marco Bezzecchi, Johann Zarco, Fabio Di Giannantonio and most recently, Marc Marquez, have become MotoGP™ winners with Ducati, as the accomplishments keep rolling through Ducati’s doors as we hit the closing stages of 2024.
Congratulations to everyone at Ducati for their phenomenal achievement!
