A strong force in both the 125cc and 250cc classes in which he challenged for the titles of each category, Toni Elías made the leap to MotoGP in 2005. His debut win came in Portugal the next year in one of the greatest races of all time against Valentino Rossi and Kenny Roberts Jr. He switched to the d’Antin Ducati satellite team in 2008, and after a pair of podiums Elías was welcomed back to San Carlo Honda Gresini to spearhead their 2009 project where he finished the season in seventh place, his best overall result in the class. In 2010 he took on the challenge of Moto2, dominating the new category and taking the first Moto2 title, a result that earned him a MotoGP ride for 2011 with Lucio Cecchinello’s LCR Honda team. A difficult season landed him 15th in the standings, and a fresh challenge for 2012 saw the Spaniard return to Moto2 with the Aspar Team. A split half way through the season meant Elías made some appearances for the Pramac Team in MotoGP™ to substitute for the injured Héctor Barberá, and later for the Italtrans Racing Team in Moto2. 2013 sees him join forces in Moto2 with Blusens Avintia.Elias returned to the MotoGP™ grid in 2015 as a replacement for Karel Abraham in Indianapolis before finishing the season with Forward Yamaha.
