Trayectoria

Julian Simon’s pre-GP career was filled with success before his debut in the World Championship in the 2002 Spanish Grand Prix. In 2003 he raced for Malaguti before switching to Aprilia in 2004, where he finished 14th, and in 2005 he placed seventh having taken a maiden GP victory at Donington Park. Another season in 125s followed before a step up to the 250cc class for 2007 and 2008, but Simón opted to drop back down to the 125s and take a ride with the Aspar team in 2009. His decision was vindicated with the 2009 125cc World Championship title, and he graduated to the Moto2™ class with the Aspar set-up in 2010, finishing runner-up. 2011 was an injury-plagued year for Simon after a crash at the Catalunya GP resulted in a nasty broken leg, and a change of teams for 2012 to Blusens Avintia offered the Spaniard a fresh challenge. In 2013 he lined up with a Kalex for the Italtrans Racing Team alongside Takaaki Nakagami, but was unable to match the Japanese rider’s form. Simon remained with Italtrans for 2014, partnered by Franco Morbidelli, but for 2015 he raced for the QMMF Racing Team, making the switch from a Kalex to a Speed Up frame. The combination remained together the following season, Simon helpful in developing the Speed Up chassis.
