Argentinean Sebastian Porto began racing minibikes at the age of ten and after winning regional 50cc competitions he picked up national titles in 100 and 250cc categories and made a wildcard appearance at the 125cc Argentinean Grand Prix before seeking his fortune in Europe in 1995. His ambition soon bore fruit as one year later he became European 250 Champion and sealed a World Championship ride with Aprilia. After three seasons he moved to Yamaha, finishing ninth in 1999 and 2000. After a disappointing 2001, which saw him end up in 16th overall, many eyes were looking on Porto to finally fulfil his promise in 2002. The victory in Brazil and five podium places confirmed his progression but a moved to Honda the next season slowed down his progress. After a lacklustre 2003 season, Porto was back with Aprilia last year and was one of the main title contenders and finished runner-up behind Pedrosa. In 2005, Porto appears to be again one of the favourites for the title.
