GPC: Moto2™ & Moto3™ tyre allocation adjustments made for riders in Q1 and Q2

The Grand Prix Commission has made changes to the Regulations that will come into immediate effect

The Grand Prix Commission, composed of Messrs. Carmelo Ezpeleta (Dorna, Chairman), Paul Duparc (FIM), Herve Poncharal (IRTA) and Biense Bierma (MSMA), in the presence of  Carlos Ezpeleta (Dorna), Mike Webb (IRTA, Secretary of the Meeting), Corrado Cecchinelli (Director of Technology), Jorge Viegas (FIM President), Paul King (FIM CCR Director) and Dominique Hebrard (FIM CTI Technical Manager) met in Jerez on 26 April 2024.

MotoGP™  – Effective immediately

It remains compulsory for MotoGP™ team members to use helmets in pit lane during the busy periods when bike changes may be made. This is defined as Q1 and Q2, and in case of bike changes during a MotoGP flag-to-flag race.

Moto2™ and Moto3™ – Effective immediately

In the Moto2™ and Moto3™ classes, riders who participate in both Q1 and  Q2  qualifying sessions (a maximum of 4 riders) will be allocated one extra front slick tyre of their preferred specification (therefore, if taken, a maximum of 9 front slick tyres) and one extra rear slick tyre of their preferred specification after Q2 (therefore, if taken, a maximum of 10 rear slick tyres), on the condition that both Q1 and Q2 are declared dry.

In all GP classes, various decisions have been taken, in particular, to ensure better respect for the hierarchy of disciplinary bodies and to redefine the authority and competence of the FIM Appeal Stewards.
